This week Miss Lawson's reading class will be reading a story titled My Name is Maria Isabel. The vocabulary words are:
-attentively
-disappointed
-misunderstanding
-nervously
-troublesome

Monday night's homework is to write a sentence for each word.
Wednesday night's homework is to retell the story to an adult at home (adult will write down the retelling on provided sheet).

Poetry Information

In honor of National Poetry Month, over the past week the students have been closely studying various forms of poetry. In reading class, we have examined acrostic poems, cinquains, couplets, color poems, haiku, and song lyrics. Now that we have spent time in class reading and writing poetry, it is the students’ turn to do so at home!
Expectations:
-students must write a poem
-students may choose the type of poem
-students may choose the topic of their poem
-poem must be accompanied by an illustration
-poems must demonstrate thought and effort; poems may not be copied from a book, website, or any other source.

The fourth grade teachers will determine the winner based off of the above criteria. One winner will be chosen from each reading class. Winners will be announced May 7th!

Grades will be based on:
Creativity (5 points)
Neatness (5 points)
Quality/effort (5 points)
Assignment handed in on time (2 points)
Presentation of poem to the class (5 points)
Illustration (3 points)

Science Quiz!

The students will have a science vocabulary quiz on Wednesday, March 31st. The vocabulary quiz will cover the following words: erosion, deposition, weathering, precipitation, evaporation, and sediment. The definitions for all of the words can be found in your student's science notebook.

-orphan, elegant, proud, crossly, godmother, peasant.

The students will have a vocabulary and comprehension quiz on Monday, 3/29. The story can be found on page 329 in the reading textbook!

Fourth Grade Information

Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

Starting with the third, and final, trimester of the school year, all assessments that will be placed in your student’s portfolio will be sent home to be signed. It is crucial that these papers are returned to school immediately after being signed, so that they can be placed in your child’s portfolio. When the assessments are sent home, they will have already had corrections made if necessary, so the score that is written on the paper, is the final score. The school work that needs to be sent back in to PCA will be math chapter tests, and reading story quizzes. It will be clearly indicated which papers need to be sent back! Keep an eye out in your student’s Thursday folder for these important documents! Please contact your student’s homeroom teacher with any questions or concerns!

April 1=PCA Service Learning Day

Permission slips for next week’s Service Learning field trip were sent home in last week’s Thursday folder. Please ensure that your student’s slip has been returned to school! Chaperones from each homeroom are still needed! As a reminder, bagged lunches are not necessary; we will eat lunch at school. Students should wear clothing that is appropriate for walking around and picking up trash...jeans, a school appropriate shirt, and sneakers. Let us know if there are any questions!

PCA’s Spring break will be from Friday, April 2nd and we will return to school on Monday, April 12th
